The easiest way to use Excel to view the Statement Details CSV file requires that one first create an Excel Template file using this procedure:
Download a statement details csv file and save it somewhere convenient.
Start Microsoft Excel.
Go to the Data tab.
Click the "From Text" button in the "Get External Data" group.
Select the statement details csv file previously downloaded.
In the next dialog, use the “delimited” setting.
In the next dialog, use the “comma separator” setting.
In the next dialog, set the TEXT columns to TEXT, the Date columns to MDY, and leave the others as "General". See the Statement Details CSV File Format topic for a list of all the columns and import column data types.
When you click "finish" the spreadsheet will appear. Set the cell format property for the "General" columns listed in the Statement Details CSV File Format topic to "Number", with the appropriate number of decimal positions. This does not affect the data itself, just the way it is displayed.
Save the spreadsheet as an Excel Template. Excel will say that the file contains data, and ask if you want it deleted and automatically refreshed whenever you open the template. Say yes.
To view a Statement Details CSV file that you have saved to a local hard drive, do the following:
The result will be an Excel sheet with the CSV file's data, without any leading zeroes dropped, without any scientific notation numbers, and with the correct numbers of decimals in all the numeric columns.
