How to Set a Static Default Value for a Check Box

Note The steps for this task are the same when using Global Extensibility  with the exception of accessing the Configuration mode.

Many users find it helpful and timesaving to configure a pre-set static default value for a check box in which they frequently enter the same specific value. For example, a user may only need to check the same check box every time he/she uses a screen so it would be faster to have the check box automatically default to checked on the screen to save time.

Note When setting a default check box using extensibility, the check box should be researched to ensure the values are valid. For check boxes (i.e., Boolean fields), the typical response should be t/T for True while f/F for False; however, there are some cases where the format differs. For example, the Final flag check box uses P for Partial = false and F for Final =true.

Click on the [User Extensibility] button next to the check box receiving the pre-set static default

Select Set Default … option

Enter the exact value for which the field should default when the Default: window appears and click the [OK] button ( for this example, T = checked)

The result is the check box of the screen will always appear as checked upon initial entry.

Note If needed, the initial default may be changed by simply over typing the default value.
